Jason kicks it up a notch

Jason kicks it up a notch

27 Oct, 2009 03:00 AM
EASY fights won't be contemplated by St Albans' lethal weapon Jason 'The Terminator' Tramsek as he waits patiently for a shot at a world kickboxing title.

In fact, it's a case of the more dangerous the opponent, the better for the 22-year-old cruiserweight, who boasts fists and feet of fury.

Duds are out. Guns are in.

Just ask Tramsek's trainer/mentor John Scida.

"Jason is so close to fighting for a world title, he can smell it. We all can. Me, his father 'Griz' and everybody at the gym," he said. "But it isn't going to happen tomorrow. [In the meantime] we've got to keep busy and Jason doesn't want easy pickings.

"That's why we are taking dangerous fights. You could get knocked off if you're not on your game.

"It keeps Jason on his toes. That's important."

Scida is adamant Tramsek will need to be at his best as he puts his Australian title on the line in what promises to be a fierce battle with Queenslander Ronnie Najjar at the Keilor Basketball Stadium this Sunday night.

"It's 50-50 this one, you better believe it," Scida said.

"Jason has got to be on the money."

He describes Najjar as "one tough cookie".

"He's fought in Thailand. He knows what is required," Scida said.

Tramsek is focused as he puts the finishing touches to what has been a gruelling training regime at Scida's Ultimate gymnasium at the corner of Constance and Kate streets, St Albans.

Fans are welcome to drop in and give him a pat on the back.

Scida's latest night of fight promises to be a ripper.

It features a mix of kickboxing, Muay Thai, mixed martial art and boxing bouts.

"I'm really excited about this show. There'll be something for everyone."

Thailand kickboxing legend 'Superboy' will also strut his stuff. Fans are being urged to arrive early to catch a glimpse of amateur boxing star Mark Kassab, who'll strut his stuff on the undercard. The boy wonder from Roxburgh Park has stamped himself as one of Victoria's hottest prospects.

Scida likes his attacking style.

"His aggression and power is amazing for a 16yearold."

He predicted big things for Kassab, who trains under the watchful eyes of Joe Democoli at the Ultimate gymnasium in Airport West.
