ST Albans Secondary College students including Benjamin Sortino, pictured, got their first taste of voting last week when the Australian Electoral Commission set up booths at the school.
With year12 students voting for their 2010 school captain and vice-captains, the commission transformed the school library into a real-life polling booth. Voting slips were created to look like those used in state and federal elections and the process was conducted in the same way, too, with volunteer students acting as officials. The experience was aimed at giving students a taste of what they can expect when they vote for the first time upon turning 18.
