 Family wants killer deported

Family wants killer deported

26 Jan, 2010 12:00 AM
'This guy is still living in Australia, still here, despite murdering our son in 1997, even though he has been found to have bad character.'

Heather McDonald

ST ALBANS residents Heather McDonald and Keith Broadbent want the man who murdered their son to be deported immediately.

Turkish citizen Mehmet Ince shot Ian Broadbent in the head in Bundoora in December 1997.

By this stage he was 19 years old, had been in Australia for just two years and already had a string of offences to his name.

After serving 10 years for the murder of Ian, Ince was supposed to be deported back to Turkey but has since used many legal avenues available to him.

"This is what I want people to know," Ms McDonald said.

"This man, who to my knowledge has never worked a day in his life, never paid a cent of taxes in Australia and is not an Australian citizen, has been wasting taxpayer dollars because he gets legal aid to fund his appeals."

Ince has been at the Maribyrnong Detention Centre since his release from jail in 2007.

He has appealed his deportation at least four times.

Ms McDonald and Mr Broadbent, along with many family and friends, held a protest outside the Maribyrnong Detention Centre earlier this month, fighting to get Ince sent back home.

"We wanted people to be aware that this guy is still living in Australia,

still here, despite murdering our son in 1997, even though he has been found to have bad character," Ms McDonald said.

During his first two years in Australia, Ince committed more than 30 offences. His last-ditch appeal to stay in the country was unsuccessful last November.

However, a department spokesman has confirmed Ince continued to be held at Maribyrnong.

"His ongoing detention is considered appropriate due to the serious nature of his crimes and he will remain there until he is removed from Australia," the spokesman said.

He said the Government was working towards Ince's removal.

Once he is deported, Ince, whose mother lives in Melbourne, will not be allowed to return.

Ms McDonald said she was sick of hearing Ince was being deported "as soon as possible".

"Do you know how many times we have been told this? We have to go and visit our son's grave to see him, we are begging the Government to send him back right now."

What do you think?

Heather and her family have suffered enough. It's time for Mehmet Ince to leave Australia. Yes, it's a tragedy for Ince's mother. But she still has the option to be with her son. She could return to Turkey and be with him. Heather can never see her son again. Ince hasn't earnt the right to remain here. Considering previous charges against him, one must ask, why was he not in jail before he had the chance to murder? Why was he armed? This is all hindsight, but we cannot understand why he is still in Australia. Something smells!

It's absolute disgrace how our goverment have treated the victims family. If i didn't see it with my own eyes I would'nt have believed it.

There has been no support for the family from day one but for the murdering lowlife he has recieved the royal treatment.

The goverment is sending out the message 'commit a crime and we will do our best to have back on the streets to commit more'.

Mehmet Ince fronted court on the 04/12/1997 with 22 charges to be given a 12 months jail sentence, but our weak laws gave him a suspended sentence second time around.

THEN on the 13/12/1997 he murdered IAN Broadbent in a road rage incident.

Our weak laws need to be changed so people committing crimes do the time like it used to be.

We need the help of all citizens of Australia to take the goverment head on and let them know we have had enough.

If you wish to fight for your rights on facebook there are two sites set up one is JUSTICE FOR IAN BROADBENT & VICTIMS OF CRIME AUSTRALIA. The more people that join the more chance we have of changing the laws. It's free to join. It's about time we all done something about this not just sitting around the kitchen table talking about it let's get out there and be heard before it's too late.

How long does this family have to suffer being tormented by this man? If he stays in Australia they will be reminded every day every week year even Xmas. At least if our goverment send him to his native country they will be able to not have to worry about him any more and try to live a normal life again. Send him back - we have enough riff-raff here now. Keep praying Heather.

As Australians we should be asking ourselves 'how this has been allowed to happen'?

Why has it continued for for such a long period of time at the expense of our tax dollars?

This family have suffered enough and deserve the support of all to have some peace in there lives and to feel safe in their own country. Heather should not be carrying this cross alone! We need law reform so we never see this type of injustice again.

To all Australians stand up and be heard. Support this family's fight for justice, it's the least we can do to make this right.

Best Wishes Heather and family.

It's about time the Government pulled their finger out and sent him back. They have put Heather, Keith, Lea and family through enough.

The Australian Goverment should be very ashamed. Take care of your own Rudd. We make this country go round not crims. There should be support for the victims not the criminals. To the family involved, get more media attention then watch the Australian Govt act!

Why is there no justice? I'm not proud to be Australian when our Goverment and justice system helps criminals from other countries before they help their own country.

I am absolutely disgusted that our politicians cannot make a simple decision and deport this 'criminal'. What do they need to consider? Mr Ince has shown what he thinks of our country and certainly does not have anything to offer. Taxpayers dollars are once again being abused.

He should be sent back to his own country. He has done that many crimes here and is still here. He has killed once and he will kill again - what about the victim's mother Heather and Keith Broadbent and their other son Lea, don't you think they need justice and peace. He is not an Australian citizen and what is our goverment trying to do keep him here? Our laws state you do a bad crime you go back to your own country. So why has he not gone back yet? Mehmit Ince - send him back now so tax payers don't pay any more money on him.
