MOMENTUM for a fund-raiser for a Sunshine teenager with a rare genetic disorder has grown, with Dancing with the Stars judge Mark Wilson declaring his support.
The Advocate had earlier highlighted the plight of 16-year-old Max Scott, who has Sanfilippo syndrome, a degenerative illness that affects the central nervous system. There is no cure. The illness is terminal and affects just one in 211,000 people.
Max's parents Vanessa and James Scott and friends and family have set up an organisation called Wild About Max to help raise money to make his life more comfortable. Part of that is this Friday's fund-raiser at Red Scooter in Balaclava.
Mark Wilson is hoping to use his influence to raise money and awareness of the illness that has turned Max from an energetic child to someone who can no longer walk or talk.
Mrs Scott said she was thrilled to have Mr Wilson on board. But she was still calling for more local businesses to sponsor or offer goods to be auctioned on the night.
